Ice Bath in Singapore
In Singapore, we had the pleasure of visiting our dear friend Tan Chun Yih at Rekoop Studio for a “Contrast Therapy Recovery Session”.
Chun was one of the first teachers from Singapore who trained in Wim Hof Method. In the private treatment, we experienced a comforting combination of ice baths, breathing exercises, workout, and a warm LED sauna. Rekoop Studio is such a beautiful getaway, right in the center of the Lion City. There, and in other locations, Chun offers private and group experiences. Here are six benefits of ice baths:
Brighten up the mood: Cold exposure can increase the release of endorphins and adrenaline, which makes you feel more joyful and free.
Heal faster: Cooling can reduce inflammation. A study published in Springer Nature in 2014 suggests that cryotherapy helps to speed up recovery after injury.
Improve your sleep quality: The cold shock ice baths provide will stimulate and aid to balance your central nervous system. This can potentially reduce fatigue and may allow you to sleep deeper.
Rejuvenate & increase your energy levels: This bio-hack activates brown fat tissue, something we loose when we get older. Thermogenesis is explained in an article published by Elsevier in 2016. It creates energy that then becomes warmth, the byproduct of this process is likely to be a boosted metabolism, because the body is working overtime to regulate its temperature.
Post-workout recovery: The cold immersion provides relief to sore muscles after workout. A regular ice bath practice or cold showers may improve your muscles’ recovery time.
Prevent cardiovascular diseases: All things considered, one of the biggest advantages of ice baths and cold showers Wim Hof always points out is that we teach our heart to deal with stress and schock, which helps to prevent cardiovascular diseases. Increase your ability to handle oxidative stress with Wim Hof Method (WHM).
